Goose Pt Lake Ellesmere  NE 20-32kts

First run here with decent wind, had a lot of 20 gusting 30 and then it kicked in and got more steady. Hooked into a beaut gust and got my first 40 since '08 then hit a submerged mai mai (again !!) and tore the fin box out....bugger, thought I was gonna be into A 40+ average.

The wind got better and better and was a good 35kts but everybody was knackered and so was I by the time I'd walked home.

Next time...great spot....got 37 kt 500 metre and a 40+ 10 sec average. I reckon 45 kts is on for this place for somebody.

Checked the Gebbies wind meter and at the time of my best run it was at 55kmh (32kts) went up to 65kmh by 7.30pm so we def left too early, need bigger batteries tho'

Hi Ian, Luckily I hit the maimai on the upwinder...still sent me over the handlebars big style.

The bod is feeling a bit second hand today.

I'm just about to take the bottom off the board to de-water it and fit a new fin box.

Mike it's lucky you're a board builder, 'cause you've been wrecking them a fair bit.

Hi Saus,

mai mai is a duck shooting hide. They leave them out there and they rot away and eventually drop just below the surface.

Our newly found spot is a popular duck shooting area in the season.

We thought we had found all the dodgy ones but not so and water is too murky to see them.

I've got a good marker now on the gps, from going over the handlebars  .....Smile

Mike,

You had me completely bamboozled as I thought you meant the hide of a duck which I thought really strange that they'd even skin a duck, and how could a decomposing duck hide do so much damage.....just googled it and found this http://www.teara.govt.nz/en/duck-shooting/2
