JJ (6448km): Peel Inlet, WA, AU First attempt at an hour - nice 18 to 20 knots. Kind of fun, I guess... On the water at 3 which was good timing as the wind dropped later. Ran square for about 45 minutes then broader for 30 minutes. Good team session with Greg and Grumpy also giving it a crack. Isonic 86, Hot Sails GPS 6.6, Elmo Weedy 32
Windxtasy (2881km): Pelican Point, WA, AU 6.4K, 85S, 32V Not enough wind but good to get out on the water again after more than 2 weeks off it. Edit: Hey, a PB gybe. I thought a couple of those felt better than usual. The break must have been good for me.
Chris Porter (8173km): LOC training. Upwinder from South Beach Freo to Coogee Jetty and downwinder back. Nice wind for upwind run, but a bit light to get going off the wind. Very challenging short period chop. The tiger shark news had me checking every shadow and trying to stay dry. F2 Ride 277; Koncept 6.6; MFC 32cm

Pointman (8480km): Went down to Mandurah for the arvo to have a go at an hour. Totally frustrated with the result Hit the water around 2 on the 8.4 TR8 + 135 Patrik + 44 Vector weedie. First run out it was fresh (18-20K) and I concluded the set-up was too big for an hour. Back to the beach to change down to the Mistral 112 + 7.6 TR7 + 40 Choco weedie. Tacked upwind to the top of the estuary and started the hour around 20 after 3. It didn't go real well, hit a dead patch and slogged for a couple of minutes after the second gybe, stuffed another couple of gybes (but recovered quickly) and had to stop and adjust a harness line half way, cos my left arm was cactus. Still I thought I had a reasonable one in the can, so gutted it's only 20.5. Replaying the track on GPSAR there were some extended patches where I was only averaging 20K, and only a couple of legs averaging 23K+. Factor in the stoppages and 20.5 is the dismal result! So the Hour continues to be the most challenging and frustrating category for me (not to mention bloody hard work). So many things have to go right for a good one. Today...basically I wasn't powered up enough, but not sure I could've hung on to the 8.4 either. I'm carrying an injury from last week in Shark Bay (ankle sprain) and it's as sore as buggery now. Well done JJ ya smoked me

Grumpy (5762km): First time I've sailed Mandurah. Nice spot. Like Pointy I thought I had a better hr but I guess not. Should have come in and changed down to the 86 but i didn't like the idea of starting again. Nice to get a PB though. Thanks for the area induction Stroppo. Nice to meet you and Decrepit. Well done JJ you smoked us. I guess I have to take back the Hollywood comment 101Is then 86Is, 6.3LB, Peel Inlet, WA, AU |
