Birdman (1819km): Melville Beach, WA, AU Mistral Explosion, NP V8 6.5m2, T-Lab 38 Great afternoon blast in patchy breeze. Started with the Rocket 95 but swapped over to the higher volume, longer board to get through the lulls.

JJ (6448km): Safety Bay, WA, AU A short team alpha mission with Lao - nice 20 to 25 knots, fully powered up with the 6.6m and 3kg weight. Good to see Anita and Greg - heaps of others out - heaps of traffic... Happy - a great end to the year Cheers to all the team members I got to sail with this year, especially Lao for being a great captain and generous mentor Isonic 86, Hot Sails GPS 6.6m, Elmo weedy 31
Windxtasy (2881km): Safety Bay, WA, AU Lorch, 4.9 Koncept, 6.3 Loft Blade, 24 elmo weedy. The numbers say it all... (but I guess you'd be disappointed if I didn't give you a bit of a story) Hollywood couldn't have scripted it better. On the last windy day of the year... It took an abandoned family lunch (I served dessert then shot through), a borrowed board (since I blew up the no-nose), a borrowed fin and a borrowed sail, some personal coaching from our illustrious team captain (who wasn't going to let me go home until we had bagged that 30) and the Chris Adamson personal cheer squad (nice to finally meet you), but finally I did it. It has taken 4 days shy of a year to beat my first display 30 which was realspeeded to 29.6. My first three runs were 29's, including a 29.8 (oooh, so close!), then the wind dropped a bit and the next couple were 28's, 27. Then Mark stepped in and we swapped my 4.9 for his 6.3. Man that sail wants to go fast. It was very tiring to sail but it did the trick. 30.28 on the dial first run, but Mark wasn't confident that wouldn't be real speeded so we went for another and were happy with 30.53. I'm sure I can do better. Still wasn't really powered up, but happy with the result.
lao shi (27489km): Got down to the Beaver to see some real wind! Set up for mission number 1. Team Alpha. Briefed JJ, 6.3, is 90, 27 choco weedy 3kg. Popped the left shoulder out on an off on the 2nd gybe!!! Luckily it popped back in. Lots of traffic but the bar was good. Best alpha was way too tight (under 40m) still trying to get used to how well this board gybes. JJ was smoking despite being injured and delighted that he smashed his PB and takes no.1 GMaster spot for 2012 for WA! 2nd goal was the Windxtasy 30+. Was a bit concerned when I saw that she had rigged the 4.9 but we gave it a go. Just not enough grunt (the wind had backed off). She dodged the kites without fear and big respect for having a go with my 6.3 to bust the PB display twice. Was not convinced the 30.26 was going to be enough so she gave it another crack. SMASHED it!!!!!!!!! WoohoooOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Long time coming and 10/10 for determination. Well done team!
Pointman (8480km): Fun Boxing Day Blast at Safety Bay on a nice fresh seabreeze. I wanted a cruisy sail and I was very comfortable on the 6.6 TR7 + 90 XFire + 31 JP weedy set-up. A bit undepowered in the Pond, so didn't attempt many alphas's, but fun blasting up to Pengo's and back (twice) and cruising in the Sound. Really nice sail, enjoyed being back on the XFire
scarrgo (6801km): Woodmans Point, WA, AU nice sesh at woodies breeze was pretty fresh but it didn't really boot in and give us some real fun never the less a great sail kiters giving me a hard time as per usual despite there being not many of them today chris came down as the breeze started to fade but he had a little somthing for me to try not to mention a new creation for himself he'd pulled out an old 41 speed board for me to have a go at shame the wind didn't kick in for the occasion but still had fun playing on the water ski got to grips with gybing it but it still threw me off the front out in the swell once just as chris left he said that i should check it for water funnily enough i opened the bung tipped it up and out came a decent amount of water back to work tomorrow for three days but when i get the chance i need to do some detective work and see if i can find/fix the leak peak today was only just on the speed board all my next best speeds were on the slalom board 5.5 evo ii, 90 mistral sl, 30 jp sl and then clockwood speed 41, 26 jp sp |
