Michael Thomson (21372km): Sandringham, S-SE 20-25 iSonic 90, KA Koncept 5.8, 32cm Goldwing I finally got the iSonic out on the speed strip powered up. The wind was a bit too square today, I could track back up to the yellow marker at the start of the run. Nevertheless, I was very happy with the speed today, but I think I was cutting far too close to the sand bank. I grazed the bottom on my last five runs. The fin tip was shredded so I called it a day. That place is a minefield!! I saw four oyster / rock outcrops on the speed run just under the water.
Q: What happens when you sail a 32cm fin in 30cm of water? A:
AlfaMale (2084km): Ffffaaaassssttttt! ! ! Best session I've had at the speed strip - ever! Wow that was fun , except I lost my sunnies, so now only Sailed the speedstrip at St George yacht club with a whole bunch of cochies and DD's. Good to see Kenny, MT, Artur, Roar Greg and a few others. The Exocet RS2 was doing well, especially when I moved the mast all the way back... made the rough stuff a little hairy, but probably gave me an extra 2kts top speed ! Only had 2 high speed spinouts, one minor. Gybing was fun at the end of the speed run.... never knowing just how far you can go before you bottom out, so gybing before you have any room to slow down. 19kt alpha doesn't do justice to some of the speeds I was carving around, laying the sail down (so much fun when it works...). But, I fell off gybing at 30kts a few times. OUCH. Thank god for my helmet and jacket, as one particularly large wipeout i fell in front of the rig, which then flipped on top of me. Would have hurt without a helmet.... Phew. 5.5 TR4 was pretty well powered up most of the time, but could have used an adjustable outhaul... next on the list. 32cm Nitro fin worked well enough. Slightly annoyed by a few kite surfers, but they bugged off after realising how dangerous they were being. Until next time, 5 days of work to look forward to.. Urgh.
Roar (6112km): Sans Souci, NSW, AU 92 JP slalom / 5.5 MkIV / 34 FO fin Great day down at the sailing club - speeed strip was pretty nice
Larko (3629km): Narrabeen Lake, NSW, AU Wind went SSE to SE straight away on the northside when front hit. Weird wind and strength, obviously nowhere as strong as Botany until very late this afternoon. Had some fun runs but was bloody hard work and weedy as!! a million people on the lagoon today and most had NFI. had two close calls (one scary) with speeding tinnies, racing Herons (at 3 knots FFS) and SUP classes. gave up in the end!! Cant really complain, 4 days sailing in a row. Falcon 125, Evo III 7.8, F/O weedster 36. |
