Nice session guys.

Great NM Anthony. This place should really produce the goods when the northerlies really strengthen. Just imagine what you could do in a solid 30-40!

Wow, nice numbers!

You guys are going to be very difficult to beat, looks like the people going to green island are going to have to try that extra bit harder now!

Well done Laughing

Choco, so the pic you have posted is of the same spot that Geoffs google shows? if so the googgle shot was taken before the drought effect?would this be right?

Hey Snides,

On the right hand side of Geoff's pic, you can see the faint outline of a channel below the water. The width of the water here, is now the full length of the area in the photo....and longer. It is approx 150m wide (plenty of room for 'alpharing') and long.......way long.....about 6 or more Sandy Points. The bulk of the channel runs due east west. The western end (Geoff's track) curves slightly SW. In winter we get a lot of NE, N + NW winds that are pre-frontal. So theoretically, we could get 2-3 days of building winds swinging slowly to the NW where they can reach 30-40 ahead of a front. The big NW will be square for the first 250m or so then you bear off and sail due east for .....I dunno.....maybe 5.5km in dead flat water. When the front hits, we pack up and drive 5 mins to the other side of the island and sail the Alpha Channel in the W/SW winds.

A few of us sailed this last year, but the water hadn't exposed the true channel - it was still a bit choppy.

Dave Mossop and I cruised the entire length of this place in the boat back in Jan/Feb. We were amazed at what we found. It has clean edges along both sides. You can sail 1m out from the bank is 2ft of water, or 2m out from the bank in 8ft of water (nice mix of metric and imperial there). We putted along in the tinnie with Dave at the front using the top half of an old X9 490 mast as the depth tester. It is very clean edged the whole way. We sat in that boat with stupid smiles on our faces for about 4 hours not really saying much, just smiling.

The only potential down side is the acidic water, acidic soils, acidic dust storms in 30-40 knots of wind, and the 700m or so that you have to carry your gear to get out there. And of course, you will want more than one board and sail, so multiply that distance.

But......effort = reward!

This place should rock. I hope we have the skills and the weather conditions to maximise it before we lose it. We've got 3 days of NE-NW coming again this weekend......

You may be envious, but the reality is the lakes are phucked! They are a good 2m lower than usual. Wildlife is suffering, tourism etc suffering and hopefully the SRM might suffer a little too.

Of course, we are happy to share it with any of our fellow speedsters.

why was there any doubt? if that's the case all times posted on team challenge should be verified to make it fair!

Times are checked randomly, or if I think that a mistake could have been made.  Times will also be checked if someone questions a score.

Please don't think that someone is questioning your honesty if a track is requested, it's more that we want to stop mistakes propagating through the data.  Every time that a score has been rejected (and there has only been a couple of these), I firmly believe that these were honest mistakes.

If you're putting up your hand to check every score Choco, then please, PLEASE step forward!

The system isn't perfect at the moment, suggestions to make it better are welcomed Smile
