Quick after work sess at PP. Got there as Snides and Claude were coming off the water about 6. should have heeded Snides' frown and rigged big straight away, instead went with 6.5CR and IS 86 first. Quickly decided that that wasn't enough and just as I did the adjustable outhaul rope 'popped' and had to come in anyway. Changed to the CR7.7 and IS 101 and actually had a fun little session around the social slalom course. wind picked up a little as well. A couple of nice drags with Steve from WF topped off a pleasant little sail, although numbers aren't sensational but wind did drop out pretty  quickly.

Expected a much better Alpha, was nailing the gybes really nicely today, best results in the 1000m category but nothing like Ado's 26+ Surprised.  Did you get that on film Ado?. You'll have to get a GoPro to record stuff like that.

Great alpha, Chris!! You were really stickin em. If you have the time I would be interested to see your track (to learn from).

Nice speed too. Was that towards the end near the bar?

Saw one big stack at speed hope you are not too sore afterwards. Congrats on an awesome PB. Had hoped to get one myself but not going in fast enough.

Thanks guys Embarassed

The best gybes were all done after sailing just downwind of the pontoon or whatever it is the baggers have put there - gybing close to the shore and then heading back out using the pontoon thing as reference point. Best alpha had a 32.85 max and only 12.66 min, but my second quickest one had a 20.4 min and 31.57 max.

Very interesting seing the max and mins Chris, just shows how many variables we are trying to balance for a great alpha (not that I manage great alphas).

Hope to see you soon put together a 33 max and a 20 min and see what that adds up toCool

Hi Evets. I don't think the 33 max or the 20 min are too much of a problem at Woodies - but if you did that it would be very hard to get within the proximity, or otherwise your outward run would be pretty slow.

In answer to your first question, I think 27's are possible at Woodies if it is windy enough to use the 5.7 & weight jacket rather than the 6.3 and no weight jacket as yesterday. The 23cm fin I was using is not really big enough for maximum speed going square with the 6.3 so the extra speed will come on the reach in and out rather than the gybe. The water where I was gybing is so smooth it's like carving butter - the gybe really is the easy part.

Thanks for the insight Chris, I had never thought about the fin/ sail/ beam reach bit but I see what you mean. My fastest alphas have been high entry speed but that was off the wind and >50m proximity (so obviously not countning for the alpha division). High speed square sounds ideal to get the proximity and a high speed alpha.

26.13 is still a blisteringly quick alpha.
