Chris Adamson (11668km): Port Beach with James and Slowy - who was hooning! I got there late and it was howling - rigged the 5.7 and blasted out on the Manta 49. Was getting worked but it moderated fairly abruptly after that and became patchy but still very good fun.
Slowboat (25967km): The port beach sausage rocks! Picked up my new 7m this morning so had to give it a crack today. Wow. Rigged with a 430 to handle the chop and gusts a bit easier. It was quite windy. The wind picked up for a patch when Ado turned up. About that time James and I were getting smashed on the 7ms. Very tricky to gybe outside and way overpowered coming into the run duw to the 1m+ steep faces to negotiate. The strangest feeling is going fast in 1m lumps of wind swell. The sausage mostly filters off the steep parts of the waves. But its pretty gusty behind there and the best line is quite a way off it to get the wind. Was a lot of hit and miss with the gusts. Most runs were overpowered on the entry then nothing on the run. I got one lit for a few seconds for a 39.67 on the dial. Got another couple of 39s and some 38s. Loads of seaweed around so used a 26cm 30deg speed/slalom fin I made. SP53. Nice to be back on the water.
Tim Stockton (3894km): quick session at melville after work. nothing remarkable.. too gusty. was happy with the alpha though; if I didnt get a lull on the exit it would have been 24ish. Hopefully will improve that pb next time at hardies..
Stringer (6817km): spewing i came unhooked.. was looking pretty good for a nm pb that miseed but a few 100m's.. oh well on holidays now and will be able to go further that eli point in search of pb's.
Snides (18313km): lots of talk lately about alphas so i decided to try and crank some out... having done that... heres a dilema that may or may not create some discussion-
i carried 2 gps's today 1x gt31 and 1x gt11
the trackpoint data off the gt11 gave me a top alpha of 27.489 in total 3x 27plus and 7 x 26 plus
the doppler alpha from the gt 11 was 26.92- within .02 of the gt31!
the gt 31(all doppler) gave a top alpha of 26.934 (as posted) in total it recorded 6 alphas all 26kn plus with a 25 plus being the 11th fastest for the day
needless to say which one should i post given that a LOT! of sailors still use the gt 11 and as such are posting the recommended trackpoint data!
the conditions where preety good given that the wind was 25kn gusting to 30 the water state was flat but not as flat as usual, there was lots of weed floating creating a sort of slalom couse to sail through (not to mention a resident stingray that looked to be a meter in diameter and swimming around with his tail in the air!!) all of the gybes where done in water that didnt reach my knee in depth with some of the exits having me bouncing across the bottom! all the gybes where done in on shore winds. casp40,rssmk2 5.4,weedy 22 |
