5595 days ago 1 categories Plan was for a big distance day if the wind co-operated. and if body co-operated
Arrived at Novarra 4.30, quite windy and dark. Thought I may need torch to rig but sky lightend rapidly. Considered 6.7 but as forecast was not for big winds early on rigged 7.8RSS, F2 SX L and 40 choco weedy. Packed mobile phone in aquapack as I was sailing alone.
Launched 4:52 no wind, wind came in at 5.00, had a great couple of hours exploring the estuary. wind a bit gusty below plaining speed but last hour was great cruising around at 17kts for the hour. Felt as though I could do this all day.. distance looking good!
07:00 wind dropped to 10kts, I was nearly as far from launch point as possible. No problem chugging back other than it took 75 minutes and that took a toll on the body, muscles in same position for a long time.
Joined by Decrepit soon after 0900, spent a lot of the next 4 hours slogging around, wind often on the brink of being enough but not quite. with 40cm fin and water level falling I ran up the channel a couple more times, I think this is contributed to the problem with cramp. Ended up with cramp in thigh, painful biceps and triceps. the wors bit was running, arms strugling to keep sail stable clew first.
Packed away the big kit at noon and rested for 1.5 hours while decrepit continued to raxck up some slow kms.and rested for a bit, thigh was v painful from cramp, team masseur put that right: many thanks.
Relaunched CA52SL, 5.8RSSII (rigged for comfort rather than max speed due to pain) , Benetic 26.5 weedy. mast base right back. NOw there was Sam, Hardie, Webby and otheres on the water, I just had fun on the CA no longer focussing on trying to do distance.
Thrilled with how this combo went in relatively low wind conditions, good upwind, great off the wind, relatively easy to get planing. Need to learn to gybe it! have been focussing on step gybes for the SX and ISO 105, think I need to get my head around strap to strap for the smaller boards.
first 5 divisions shown on CA.
