Wow what a day!!! Had a visitor from the west rock up on the doorstep at some ungodly hour last night, balme the car all you want Jacques!! haha. Up super early and off to the Pit. Arrived before 7 and there was already a good crew there rigging up. Everyone was rigging anything from 4.0's to 5.8's - there was no wind at all and it was pissing down... why do we do this sport again???
Well just after 8 we found out. It was like someone flicked a switch and it was on. Everyone rushed for gear and got out there. I did 3 runs (in the lulls) and was border line out of control. Didnt sheet in on any of those runs and got mid 34's!! By the time i got back, the Pit regulars were running to grab 4.0's & 4.4's. Considering i was trying to hold down my 5.3 Kult it was time for me to sit out and watch. It was like nothing i've seen before. Sand meters high blowing out into the run, the wind was blowing 40+ easily!! A number of people were getting smashed because it was square to the run so they packed it in. I sat around and am glad i did.
After lunch and on high tide the wind backed off a smidge and it became sailable again. Jumped back out there with my isonic 86slim, 5.3 Kult & 30cm venom. Went for some alphas (missed my pb by .05!!) and got some nice runs. Later in the arvo i borrowed Kato's 5.0 koncept and chucked in a Time Machine 23cm assy for a few runs. Felt really weird and couldnt get it working properly but ended up with my peak for the day.
Big day, long day, really tired after over 12 hrs at the Pit. Well worth it.
