Glory Holes, Australind, WA, AU

made the decision to sail local today. as on its day benderland can be as good as anywhere to sail.

unfortunatly this wasnt the case today . massive wind blown slop made trying to go fast very interesting.

the board seemed to spend more time in the air than on the water.eventually self preservation kicked in and i slunk off home.

used ..iso 94 , 6.5 code red and my 31 elmoed weedy...

Weed Bank

47 Mistral, 5.9 TR8 , new 20cm slingshot

Good outing, had my biggest off ever. Bit sore hitting the water at 44. Very gusty and to overpowered to sail some of the squalls on the 5.9. Very happy  with the 20 slingshot, felt stable then got confident. Tomski on fire once again, he is a mean lean speed machine now, I call him the Jedi. One of the expendables was there and was on fire. Shano tried a late crack, but looked out of control in the gusty conditions. Worn tired but happy. Got a 44 on the dial with my best 10 sec of 41.26.

Another stellar day on the bank!! Missed the third member of the bank crew who had to do the 'W' thing. Joined by a member of the expendables (who could only be recognized as a flying mist....SMOKING). Good things come to those who PUT IN......watch this space. Happy with an increase in overall speed!! Good to see shano having a crack.

I think you made the right decision. There would have been nothing safe about Safety Bay today.

At least you bagged a bunch of those elusive 30's Smile

Visited the pond late morning, nice and flat by the bar, no kiters out, ----- but no windsurfers either, (except some mad buggers out in the open water!). I wimped out, too cold, too stormy, and still a bit fatigued from yesterday.

Respect guys some more great numbers.

Not sure I get your mob's obsession with secrecy though?

The WA speedsailing community is pretty small so it's unlikely any of these 'secret spots' will ever get crowded.

It's not necessarily the whole mob's obsession, just the guys that put the effort into finding the spots, it's up to them to decide who gets told.

To the guys (like the one's whinging) who sail the same spots while others miss out on good sessions because they thought spots would be good. It's not easy missing 30 knot forecasts with one run for the day, or driving 2000 km's to checks spots. Get off your asses. Don't take the easy option.  It's not about secret spots. It's about enjoying the spot with guys who got each other pumped up to discover the new spots. They will come out eventually but there has too be some reward for walking runs in pissing rain, shivering. Rolling up to sailing spots without your gear just to check.  If your not happy with your local, go have a look around.

It's much easier to spot 12-15 windsurfing sails, than it is 3-4. If one kiter see people sailing, the place will be packed. It's not the 'SMALL SPEED SAILING COMMUNITY' I'm worried about. It's the 3000 f@#king kiters!!!!!!! Look at Safety Bay, Point walter and woodies. The same guys that complain in their posts every session about crowds and kiters in the way are complaining about this. Come on people. Why not just get out and sail?Smile

Cool looks like the "weed bank" goes! Matty was stoked. Good effort giving it a crack and sussing it out. One day I'll suss it out but in hindsight I think the beaver would have been going off if I stuck around an hour longer for the wind swing. Cant be everywhere at once...

To ALL concerned about secret spots. Firstly Tom Stropp an myself have put in a massive effort an time into this spot, especially Tom. To find out where all the hazards are an we get one day when its on to explore the potential an you get a few bashers. Personally myself I have the privlage to have alot of time off to explore. I have invested alot of time, money! , an sailing time to explore this state from the bottom to the top. There is alot of fantastic spots out there, and yes , there is alot of spots just as good as sandy point,I personally are happy to release spots once i find they are safe after I have had a few sesssions and that it does not invite KITERS.  To me I thrive on getting away exploring a spot, looking at the set up an getting excited, then having a go, be by myself or good friends. Its such a rush an the thrill of getting rewarded makes it so much special. The search will always continue as my love to is to explore. So open your eyes, an if you want wind Whilste it in. I Do not, an have never shunned the Speed sailing community but , I cant just publish a book on every spot, wind direction, tides , hazards, bests months when its works. Thats why roads trips are the go? If you would like to say something to me about this. Please do not hessitate in contacting me.

Regards

Crasher

My discussions with team members is not to keep these spots secret forever from the GTC community! In time all GTC community members will be informed.  A bit of patience in letting the one;s who have done the hard work to enjoy some privelege, privelege always comes with hard work.  Then u will all get your chance one day.  pATIENCE PLEASE!!!!!!

One issue is that when u guyz & galz see and sail these  places you will realise how quickly some of these places will get over-crowded, and spoilt.

A spot that is magic for 3 to share, becomes bizzy with 5 or 6, becomes crowded with 10, unsailable with 30 and kiters.  The safest way initially to avoid these places being ruined is just to keep them secret.  But eventually its important that all community members enjoy, we realise and want this.  However, when we drip feed these spotz into the community, help us to safe-gaurd them from the potential nightmare scenarios that these spots become lost to us like many others thru over-crowding?

I can see your points especially regarding checking out a spot for safety, but it's just that in the GPSTC which I have found to be such an open, supportive, sharing and helpful community, secrecy and exclusivity is a rare sour note. Please don't poison the golden goose. The GPSTC communtiy is a rare gem. We need to nuture it.

That said, it takes rare courage to sail at high speed in unexplored territory where unknown hazards lie beneath the surface. Your PB's are well deserved and our hats are off to you.

Hardie

4491 days ago

Yes we are going to share, will be sooner rather than later, please just be patient, we all just wanted our little fill like pigz at the swill, b4 we fully disclose, but as in the spirit of the GTC of inclusiveness we will share.  What we need to work out is how to get this info out there, in a way that doesnt end up like safety bay and woodmans point, which is now disastrous for the average speedsailor unwilling to play chicken and face aggro.  Be Patient ..... though if you have any suggestions on how we disseminate this info, without alerting every wind sport fanatic & wind sport tourist that visits  WA, I'm all ears??

With a facebook page, maybe I be the gate-keeper if that possible? Someone would have to instruct an IT imbecile like me on how to set something like that up?

It’s easy to setup, give me the GPS coordinates and i will encrypt it in 512bit both you and i will have to simulataenously enter a 36 character cypher to unencrypt the data for dissemination to our nominated underlings

go to facebook, on the LHS column you should see groups, and create new group, set privacy setting and invite members. Nebbian should know all about 512-bit encryption.

Good to see some constructive dialogue on this thread.  For the record I wasn't whinging or complaining, just asking the question everyone else was too polite to ask Wink

I don't want prime speedsailing spots to be over-run with tea-baggers either, so I'm all for a discrete way of sharing spot info with the local GPSTC crew. Cool

For me GPSTC is all about sharing the stoke, and competing with and against your mates.  Anything that furthers that ethos is a good move.

Thanks Hardie, I admire your prompt initiative. Really all you need is a spirit of openness so that people who do know the location feel free to share it privately with other GPS sailors. It doesn't need to be on any open forum anywhere.

Huge number of scooter drivers going really fast despite the rest of the traffic! Hope you get some good conditions for hr nm dist. Ps., great 2 sec Tom and not a pb. Smoking this month :-)
