Stansbury, SA, AU Southerly 10-20knots

Sputnik, NP raf 6.2, 30 weedy

First summer southerly sea breeze. Been sailing around all winter wondering why the weed fin was needed but today i was reminded with large clumps being blown over the spit and the short jarring chop returning. The wind was not  strong enough to be really powered up so just settled in for a relaxing sail with the new gath helmet( last time out lost my hat, about no 6 for the year, and decided its time for the helmet).

cheers

Tryed something different today

used the old 6.7 NP speedseeeker from under the caravan with stock 36 freeride fin in the F2 stoke for a change.

wind was just a straight 9 to 10 knots all the time early but a few pumps and the old girl was able to plane ok even though a lot of gluging as well. picked up to 10 to 14 and was sweet for a while, never got lit at all, about 3 had to pack up as had a few calls for the boys subi I had for sale and as you would guess it started to come in as I left. sold the subi though so at least thats a good thing.

man the old sail with 20% mast and X3 boom was heavy have been spoilt with the Koncept and 100% mast and carbon boom.

Had a good sesh today on 7.3 gps and  111 falcon.  Sail with a few regulars.  Looks as though carl has beaten me again.  Well done mate. Also hit a couple of carp and smashed a box but at least I had a sail.

Boggy Lake, SA, AU

You know those days you just can't get it right?  That was my today.  I kept oversheeting on my first session (probably because undercooked with a 5.8) and then didn't really dial in my 6.7m afterwards.

Embarassingly, while rigging the 6.7 I was already shagged and my rig got air under it as I was downhauling and I nearly clocked two different people on two different occassions.  And my cams popped off as I did the final downhaul - if Gareth hadn't pointed it out to me, I probably wouldn't have noticed. Rookie mistakes.  It was like I was a beginner again.

But I still managed to have fun, so not a complete write off.

Another arvo session after work.  15 -20 gusting a bit more so started rigging 6m and isonic 86.  Sam headed out and soon came in and said "rig bigger it has dropped back".  By this time i had lost the spring to my extension, half rigged 6m, got board ready and had snot dribbling out of my nose from sinus probsYell.  Rigged 7m Loft blade (waiting for 7.3 hotsail at the moment), dribbled snot all over the 7m and got 113 Fanatic falcon ready with Black project fin R375.  A little over it by this time but had a cheaper gopro copy to try.  Headed out for a few runs - might try and post video when i can work out how to. Quickly realised why most guys only do a few runs - too fragileSurprised.  Took the camera back to shore and headed out for a fun hourSmile.  Had a ball on the Fanatic falcon 113 - amazing for a big board how much control and amazing gybes you can do - definately makes light wind funSmile

Great fun and might even get out tomorrow if the wind shows up....

Boggy lake - 13 - 18 knots.

Not a good day. As i unpacked my gear to rig up Sam pointed out a hair line crack in straight line to nose of my new Patricks board Frownit must have got a knock from the mast as it was lined up with the mast base but i don't remember doing it. It seems not yo have broken through the skin but to be safe I decided to try out Board Bog to do a patch. It is great stuff easy to use and create a removable seal so you and keep sailing and then repair the board professionally later.

As it was gusting over 20 knots I decided to give the delta Slalom 22 (maybe a bit small for the conditions) a go as I am waiting for a Black project 44cm fin I have ordered for the board. was surprised that the delta slalom was working well Smileand I think has the potential for some fast runs in the flat water along the reeds and I would not have to worry about carp and the fin would just slide over them. Unfortunately on my first run across my harness line snapped.Frown So I came back in to put a replacement on and then after a bit of time wasting and getting the harness line change the wind dropped back and so the fin was just not generating enough lift to get going. So I decide to call it quits until next time.

Sorry about the board Gareth...maybe you had an even worse day than me!

It's kind of Murphy's law - on your first few sessions on a spanking new board, something always happens.
