JJ (6448km): Melville Beach, WA, AU Nice to be on the water again - great to see so many out. Congrats Mark on another 100 - I was happy with 28 today, it was a misery being forced to have a month off. Futura 101, Code Red 6.1, Flying Objects 34
lao shi (27489km): Not quite the leaisurely after W word cruise I had expected! Started of on Bubba and was having fun with a few nice gusts coming through. Wind kept building but persisted thinking it was going to back off. After an hour decided it was time to change. 2 sec PB of 29.63 and a 30+ display for this set up. It will go faster on a better fin. Pleased with the gybing of the 122is, a 21.12 with a min speed of 13. Switched to the Sonic for 70K. Couldn't get the speed up today despite some good gusts and nice runs down the troughs. Well done, JJ on getting back out on the water and hope you are not too sore. Windxtasy did very well to hang on to a 6.4! Great afternoon with a bit of everything. Sunshine to start, blasting winter rain later and a moody sunset to finish. Best of all a good breeze! Thanks your Hueyness! Lots of crew out fanging around. LB7, is122,drake46,s100,gw32.
Windxtasy (2881km): Melville Beach, WA, AU 6.4 Koncept, 111 Futura, 40 free, then 6.4, 85 Sonic, 32 Vector Rigged for the current conditions (biggest of everything), and made the comment that I was tired of using all my big gear and was looking forward to using my fave 5.7 again. God must have been listening because the wind picked up a notch while I was putting on all my gear. Thought I'd give the 6.4 a go anyway. I managed to keep it all under control (most of the time) but it was exhausting. There is a spot on my GPS track which looks like a beautiful down wind run, but it's actually 500m of me sliding sideways whilst still going forwards and ending up 45 degrees off the wind. It was not at all scary and a very smooth ride but the spinout lasted so long I was beginning to think my fin had fallen out or snapped right off, but eventually it caught. I came in for a rest and was tossing up between going home, rigging the 5.7, or just changing down boards. For a while the wind got stronger and I wished I had packed my 5m Koncept in. In the end I just changed down to my 85 Sonic and blasted around a bit more. Good to see JJ bravely fronting up for a sail after recovering from his multiple injuries. It took him longer to put on all his protective gear than it took to rig his sail. Lao shi was bravely whittling down the gap between his km tally and the 20 000 goal. Another 100 + on the board today. Will he get there this weekend? Go Mark! |
