Hardie (20239km): Peel Inlet, WA, AU Too Old Too Fat Too Slow Tr-7 5.5m, Tabou Manta 54 25cm weedy, v windy, & choppy, had 33 on the dial, Matt Langer had 36.4 on the dial, dunno how he went that fast in those conditions? All the MMob crew went to a new spot hope it was less choppy than here!! Good luck guyz!!!!!11
Pepe47 (7101km): 5.8m koncept, 90 rrd, 24 pepefoil. Had a great run out the first time and realised I left the gps in the car, not a great start! 2nd run was even better with one good bear away, quickly coming to the understanding that I was waay overpowered on the 5.8... Which leads to the teammates who were still giving it what for, even though the wind was picking up quite quickly. Then the wind came in!!!! Well bugger me, I take my hat off to the mad bastards. Trees were getting stripped, uprooted, and generally tossed about like rag dolls. Then Elmo came back in promptly collapsing on the ground, managing to say that Stroppo managed a 40. Heard an almighty crash, looked around and saw the remnants of Stroppo's sail wrapped around his car, totally shredded. What a price to pay eh Strop? Totally loved the whole day and glad to see the Mob getting together trying new ground And of course, Crasher and Stroppo getting more than thier fair share of exercise.

Doddi (2847km): Wow , was a tad overdone today on the avanti machine 6.1. First run out i spot stroppo waving at me so sailed down to see him grinning and holding a boom in six pieces. Said he had a good off at the end of a run. Sailed back to car for another boom so he could get back. took off again with the other boom hanging off sail. Then holy S---t. This is a petty good front coming in. The time i got back to stroppo i was spent. Never been so overpowered in my life. The time stroppo put new boom on the wind just went mental. Got some good helmet cam footage. Then tried sailing back was fun. Seeing swans kart wheeling you soon think gee it now starting to nuke. Then wind swung an picked up more. Thats when i started laughing. Finished the day off with a 3 plus hour walk back to the cars. Big thanks for the guys looking an waiting for us.
Tomski (6938km): Boomba's. Iso 76, 6.2 reflex II, vector delta 25. 5.6 reflex II Speed special 44W, vector delta 25 First to hit the water and after a look around found the holy grail. Boomba!!! Had a few runs with 36.8 on the dial. As the wind picked up decided to change down to the 5.6 and speed board. Had 3 longish runs (2 100 m short of Nm).38.2 on the dial. Than it came in. Just managed to get back super over powered. The day belongs to Stroppo. Legend status. But slightly expensive!! I'll let him tell that story.
STROPPO (3471km): Wow awsone day out at bombas got nuked there after 1 hour on the water havnt seen water doing that those gust were insane got my best run on helmet cam whitch was my nauti aswell then a big off when i came of the gas a windwd tail skip then 1 big launch snaped the hanness line like tooth flossing string smashed the carbon boom in several spotts but tr4 and old mast nearly 20 years old no probs crasher saved the day by delivering another boom in about 50 knots or i would of been sleeping with the swans tonight i had some realy close runins with them at max speed should look good on helmet cam some of them were having masive wipeouts into the water it was just some mental sh#t i dont have a 6.6 any more that got destroyed against my troopie while i was out the old wind swing trick got me again we went out on a ne and came back 2 a swter was a awsome feeling 2 make that 40.33 on the dial thanks 4 the help 2 all in the last few months i was hanging 2 do that that spot was crazy tr4 5.9 nude 54 delta weedy 23
Elmo (15665km): JP Slalom VI 65cm & JP weed 31cm, JP Speed 54cm & Elmo chopbuster weed 28cm, NP RSR Eiii 6.2m. Fark me I got my Bomba kicked Somehow or other I finally managed to convince someone to go on the marathon drive to suss out a spot which I'd had my eye on for years but could never get anyone excited enough to go, this time the cheese graters window of dissapointment looked smaller than normal so we got a good crew out to pick up the pieces of muppet if things went bad. Got there in time to disturb Crasher taking a crap in the bush (so now you know the answer to that question: Yes they do do!) Strop and Pepe were already there looking a bit excited and it wasn't long before Tomski and Shane turned. The banter was great fun whilst we watched the wind gradually pick up and the white caps come closer, started getting outa hand a bit when Crasher got everyone laughing about his new Apple cider. I was the first to break and started rigging, not knowing what to expect in regards to where the bottom was and what was out there I went initialy with the slalom board as It didn't quite look windy enough for the speed board with my podgy arse over it. Though the 6.2 would be a nice compromise if the "wind came in" oh if only I knew then what I know now First run was a short one to stop and check the depth which was rather surprising and just to make sure i doidn't have something stuck to the underside of the board keeping it of the water, Saw Strop take of like a scalded cat on his first run,ave him a "woo hoo" as he went skipping past (found out later that it was a 39kn run straight of the beach and a new PB) Crasher came next with his horny looking Avanti gave him a hoot as well. Did a few nore runs with the wind picking up a bit couple of nice little squirts Went back to the car where we caught up with Tomski who goes bugger this you need to be over there, ripple city as far as the eye can see yeah bollocks it can't be that good but we'll go have a squizz, so after some major faffing around, went on the journey to Tom's promised lands. Eventually got there to see Crasher in the shallows waving at me, thought he may have had a bit of a prob so I waited around, he came over and gave us the news of Strop's efforts in speed and destruction and informed that he was heading back to grab another boom. Went of a did a short sighting run, figured that the mast foot was to far back as the board was getting very flighty with the wind picking up, sailed back to the start adjusted and took of on another run with the thought of going for a quick naughty the wind was picking up a bit more, Took of the wind picked up a bit more, got up to speed the wind picked up a bit more, oh dear the black patches are now sucking up water, oh shit, not good, controlled rapid decceleration (deliberate crash) turned around to see a white out heading torwards usscan 180º there f'ken white out everywhere, Toms down a couple of hundred metres away and looked to be ok apart from when he tries to water start and cops a wompin, myself being a more practised coward draged the sail to windward and burried it in the water and hung on, and hung on and hung on and OMG it's getting f'ken worst these squalla are only supposed to last about 5 mins and blow them selves out.
Ine the middle of all this an Avanti sail apears of of the mist, with Crasher giving a masterfull display of extreme sailing, it wasn't pretty and he was fighting it all the way, but the fecker didn't go down he just kept battling towards Strop in winds +40knots with a 6.1m sail whilst carrying a spare boom Respect Mate, that was something to behold I waited for half an hour cowering in the water occasionally getting my arse handed to me when it tried to get going, after 30 od minutes my legs were starting to cramp there was a patch of blue above and a white wall of hurt heading our way so clenching my sphincter extra hard thought this is it I'm going to have to go now or I'm screwed as it's a long way back to the cars and so began my 15mins of terror, pain, terror, missery and terror. Now at this stage I'll make now qualms about this I was shitting myself, very rarely do these wind strengths come up in WA and I'll be honest I don't like it it scares the shits out of me, but at the end of the day what can you do. The sail back was a nightmare, fark knows how Crasher did it (talent I suppose) but after 6 catapults I eventually got back to the shore barely able to stand, managed to drag the gear the last 50m to shore and over the weed build up laid the gear down and colapsed, had to lay down for a fair while to get the heart rate down (sorry for worrying you guys). After a while Tomski appeared through the mist also fighting his gear looking a lot better than what I felt telling of something very large bumping into his legs whilst waiting for a quiet patch tp return (didn't wnat to tell him the local sharks do that to the net fisherman at night). Looking out at the water it was looking worse, so quickly derigged and even quicker got changed as the nasty was just about onto us, had just got a shirt on and the budgy smugglers of when all hell broke loose (as if it wasn't bad enough already) Tres started coplapsing and Stroppo's 6.6 took of and commited suicide on Strops car. Ouch thats a +$2k day. I decided to nut and bolt to go have a look on the other side for the boys, the excitement didn't stop there as it ended up being a nice slow 20kmh drive out of there weaving around through under and over all the tree's and their bits allover the road. Hit the main drag and then found out exactly how strong the wind was when I was side on to it and looking into the side mirror to see the trailer pushed sideways a foot and a half, adrenaline overload by this stage, the drive back was nerve racking as well not helped by the fuel gauge idiot light which reminded me I should have filled before I left on this marathon, went and had a quick look down one of the roads only to be turned back through cowardice with the trailer (sorry boys), there was carnage everywhere on the way home trees down all over powerlines down. Almost got home when I get the text that our powers gone out, (only just got it back today). Damage for the day 1 broken batten 1 overworked adrenal gland 1 cramped calf muscle 1 overworked freckle and 1 bruised confidence Overall a thoroughly sucessfull exploritory mission Crasher, do you owe Strop a Dikens cider or is it the other way around for the rescue? Huge congrats to Strop and Tom for the PB's and huge thanks to Pepe, Crasher and Shane for making it a memorable day

Bender (19030km): Glory Holes, Australind, WA, AU F2SX SX & CASP40, reflex3 6.2m, 23slingshot&23KAsym Wild wild day. The data is from 20mins of sailing when it was still NNE at about 25-30knts. Came in to wait for the westerly change with Ratz and Evets. 5mins later we were all cowering in 60knts of wild south westlery and watching tree snapping and and waist high waves crashing on the shore. For the next 90mins we struggled to unrigg out gear and stand up the wind was that strong. The one run on the new Carbon art Speed 40 was scary as by then the wind was close to 35kntsd and the chop and waves were big enough to wave sail on. I think it will be one quick board in some smooth water.
sms09 (2087km): good team turn out..and the laughter was still continuing from wednesdays skunked session.then the wind started to come in only managed 3 runs and thought to myself nah not ready to die yet,as ive never sailed these conditions before. was comfortable using tr6 5.1 board was to big ca58 that was my down fall crasher said strap on the nude 55,but by then it was nasty, gusting 50+knts Balls are big..! But not that big just yet good,, aleast i can say i sailed that day,as not many people did. then got home to find 25metres of fencing down the side, and 15 metres down out the back super 6 fencing is crap why the #%@k are the allowed to sell it. still had power, but the internet was down and still is..using crashers computer to post. thanks mate.! huge respect to all that sailed to today and at top effort to to tomski on the pbs well done mate..and to the man whos just out there smashing out numbers and the pbs keep coming stroppo awesome effort and performance mate.. raising the bar.! great sportsmanship shown by crasher to sail out to a team mate with 2 booms attached and sail in nuclear conditions.but then had to endure a 3+hr walk of shame.

evets (10573km): Glory Holes, Australind, WA, AU Crazy day at Australind. it took 3 of us to carry the sails into the lee of a building to de-rig. It had prommissed so much with 22kts westerlies forecast. when it did go westerly it was 60 kts and choppy. Had to move car as the huge collapsing tree threatened to crush it. Maybe next time we will get westerlies!. |
