Goolwa Lake (the chop bowl)

SW 25 - 39 knots (according to the weather station)

Kode 86 / proto Severne 2010 Blade 5.3 / 25 Drake wave

If the lake hadn't flooded, this would have been a 40+ knot day on the old speed strip. It has flooded, and so the bump combo gave me many kilometres of comfort, more comfort than my team mates I suspect as it was bloody choppy. Nice to spend some time on this board, and 130km's later, I can say I love it!

Nearly did a quicky to Sandy this weekend, but in the end thought I'd save that leave pass for another time. Might end up regretting it. Good luck to those that are there - hope to see some big PB's.

It was one of those frustrating days.  Decided to ride isonic 50 and put the 5.1 tr-4 on to try my c3 24cm venom for the 1st time.  At the start it was okay but soon dropped back.  Fin is superb - very fast and controlled even in crazy chop.  Surprised how the isonic went through the chop.  Kept it clean and not too many scary bear aways.  Went and changed to fanatic falcon 89.  It doesn't work well with the 5.1 - it doesn't drive the board and makes you spin out - too much back foot pressure.  In the end took Sams jp slalom 54 - 70 litre for a cruise.  Good when going but not much flotation in the gusty conditions.  Cold day and spent alot of time in the water waiting for gusts to get going.  Like Chris D said it was a 40 knot+ day if the lake wasn't flooded.  Good to have some water for cruising anywhere but suicidal going fast in the chop.

Isonic 50 / 5.1 tr-4 maui / c3 venom 24

Fanatic falcon 89 / 5.1 tr-4 / c3 venom 32

Jp slalom 54 / 5.1 tr-4 / 29cm sl7

Goolwa mental channel - 20 - 25 knots gusting to 30 at times

Nice Km's guys, I bet it felt like 250!

Can you sail anywhere and where did you launch?

I thought the mouth might have been good in the SSW early...

Hey Tim,

Launched on the island side - can sail anywhere. Small fins helped. In the middle of the once exposed banks, it is now knee deep. By Christmas, we should be sailing everywhere again with big fin clearance. Bring on the dog-fights!

Didn't check out the mouth. Last time I was there, the dredging buoys were still in place.
