Dragon's Head - Shark bay -30+knts (again!) days 4 on the small kit Cool. Discussed last night how and when we was going to do that...

Early start (9.30) to make sure we get the wind and tide right.. and we did.. the dragon was on fire Cool we finally had the spot dialed in. most probably the scariest session ever. Did felt really fast, could have done better if I had my weight jacket but the crossing was very hairy Sealed.. next time, the spot is just around the corner Tongue out.

Start up with the 5.5 and got to 39, then many 37, 36... wind picked up nasty and was not doing better, so went back 3ks across (did not really want to go but but was my only chance to improve my speed) to downsize fin and sail. With the smaller sizes I went strait to a couple of 39s which put a big smile on my face. Joe had is 40 which made me very happy.. near the end I finilly see the 40.31 showing on the sreen, it made me very happy. Not so now it went down to 39.951 Yell

We got the spot sussed in now, not more long travel over east, we can sail bordies in beautiful locations Cool. GREAT Christmas present to share this very special day with my great friend Joe which really deserved it.

CA44 - TR7_5.5 -Ka230 / RSS5.0 - 220/37SSP (thanks Crasher for the sail Wink)

Got my xmas present of 40kts on xmas day, cant ask for more.  15 to 25kts early then kicked in to 25 to 33kts, Tr-4 5.9m, Nude 46 slingshot 21cm.  Dragon Head, inside the dragons head, The nude 46 is a sensational board inspires confidence.  The slingshot behaved all day.  The 40kt run was sensational, it felt extremely fast, over 30cm of water.  Sammy was ripped off by Doppler, he had 40.31 display!!!!  Glad boat wasnt available, woulda been dangerous coming back in those seas, forced us to find and exploit a new spot.  Pity wind kicked in after I'd already been sailing for 3 hours, and was totally stuffed.  It was on the edge stuff towards end, and I wanted to come back alive to tell the story, so instead of going for a 2 sec PB and a 5x10pb, I decided to watch Sammy get his forty and then sail back 3km's in vicious chop.

Edit: Crasher was 5 knots stronger today than that day at Amigo's you woulda gone close to 45+ today

Started off with the avi 6.0 on the 53 with the 25.5 30deg. getting 29s, Then took Pepe's 26 supper cutdown for a test drive, wind had picked up a tad and I got 30 with it, really trucked upwind, but didn't feel all that slippery downwind, think it was just a bit too big for the conditions for fastest downwind speed. Came in to swap to the lockwood 23. Crasher had rigged and said he was going for an hour, decided to try and back him up. We both headed for claudesville, but crasher ran out of wind just into the flat zone. I decided to carry on, glad I did, easiest hour I've done. manages 1hr 10min planning downwind, and didn't miss a gybe for once!

I'm very happy to finally get a 23! (my 3rd best, I've only had 22s and 24s before).

Wasn't sure it would be that good, although I didn't come off the plane I was fairly underpowered a lot of the time, especially through the middle. Guess that's what made it easy, water was the flatest I've had for an hour attempt, and only being lightly powered is less streesful.

40 knots Hardie! What can we say but Ho Ho Ho!!! Loving the stories and pictures coming in from far off and exotic lands. Bad luck Sammy on the Two Second Monster taking a bite out of your 40 knot pie, but it'll taste all the more sweet when you finally get to eat it. Here's wishing the Mandurah Mob a very windy Christmas and a howling New Year!

Back in Perth last night.. been 2 days since the session and I am still buzzing.. Want some more!! Thank you all for the comments Wink

I just cannot stop thinking about it, it was my fastest and best session in fact.. 38s nd 39s was rainining, no crap gusty wind you have to wait for, it was solid and could grab it pretty much any time. Travelling across the wind and chops at 33 to 34 until the corner where you will get a massif kick in the ass (the sligshoot) 35 to 37 .. on the exit you would bareoff and hold on tide coming down now on 2-300mm chops Sealed (as long you got the speed you don't feel it) thats where I felt I needed my weight jacket to keep the board down!... you keep accelerating.... As you keep going, the chops get smaller (as long you keep on the edge).. there is another sligshoot  somewhere down the track, only realised on my last few runs (maybe just a lucky gust!) thats where I got the 40, the 39s was after the corner in the chops.. The best of the run is about 1300m long...

My last day session in Sandy Point last year on my own was I have to say awesome (the best I had there, best ever at that time). The new spot has different good and bad points in contrast. But will put the Dragon's Head difficulty's level a noch higher because the: 3ks in vicious chops to get there, the shallow water (to be tided perfectly), the high of the chops at first (middle of run), then the landing at high speed (or you do a wide high speed alpha, or a side way stop like SPoint but in 3-500mm of water)Sealed. I beleive we may have a potential NM, but we was too crasy about the high speed to test it, I think we will need a bit analyse on that one.. I believe I could achieve a 41-42 there, big boys 44-45.. the only limit is your mind Tongue out

It is not that hard to find spots upthere, the key is a boat (more choices), a 4WD, camping gear, time, time, time and analyse the area. This place is a beautiful untouched ground, and too worried if give it away it will get trashed!! Frown There is many other places that I am dying to check Wink.. shark bay is the W.A's gold mine of speedsailing Cool. You know what to do now!!?
