Thanks everyone, it was flat and windy out there, you just had to ignore despite the driving rain later on . Stroppo it was great to see several speed sailors here, normally there is just 2 of us and a few kiters at the southern end. I hope we get some strong seabreezes next year, this year has been good but this was the first strong wind. That said I have used my 6.2 or 5.4 9 times since January, would be more if I was able to sail evenings.

Pepe that sounds great, sailing the easterlies on the estuary has some wonderful memories for me and to sail with the dolphins is very special.

Well done M-Mob. Great going guys. Nice corner there too Elmo. Going to have to get down there soon Steve.

yes Pointman the summer seabreezes are easterly here, they seem to have nbeen more reliable here this year than in Perth but like Perth not as strong as a few years ago.

Hi 25, I think it was a one off, no need for you to travel to this cold and dreary locale! ;-) How did you go at Melville on Saturday? (please imaging the the icon with the tongue sticking here).

I suspect you may make the journey one day, in fact I look forward to it as I reckon there would be some WA pbs for you on the right day Coming donw in summer may be sensible when the seabreeze obliges, it was grey and rainy on Saurday. All you could look forward to would be an easy drive (very little traffic) no uncomfortable flights . No excess baggage, no airport delays, non-crowded speed run (in fact a huge area of flat water so anywhere there is a gust becomes the run, no hire care issues, the flattest water you could ask for (so good even Elmo could gybe!) and even in autumn Decrepit was warm enough in a shortie. Park beside the launch spot on a bitumen parking area with a grassy rigging area. Oh and a friendly local or two! One sailor from Saturday has said to me it is not challenging as it is so flat. And the sand bar even appears to keep out the great whites.

p.s. for those who do not follow this Elmo and I have shared some abuse for who is ahead on alphas, ELMO is currently way ahead of me and also 25 was key to me getting a pb for 2 sec 5 years ago with rigging assistance which has continued over the years, thanks again PD, you have helped keep me hooked on speed  going fast on a windsurf board.)

Yes what a surprise 25, Albany has one of WA's top speed runs.

Here's my GE tracks.

You can see 2 launch sites, the morning was low tide so we drove 300m South to the public launch site, where it's a bit deeper inshore.

This is also when I did the more southerly speed runs.

By lunch time the tide had come in enough to get in and out at Lilac Cottages easily, so that is the Northerly launch spot, as the tide increased the run moved North. The shorter and more raked your fin the smoother the water you could get into. I had a couple of runs, where there was no RAT TAT TAT noise from the board, only the SHHHHH sound of my wake, Fantastic!

Unfortunately it was too wet to get the camera out and take pics of the action, but here's a shot the next morning at low tide from our balcony.

This is a slightly telescopic view so things are a bit foreshortened. The middle of the weed bank is about halfway down the run, as the tide comes in the weed is covered and you get nice smooth water.

As an aside, the cottages are well appointed, Hardy and I stayed in #6 it sleeps 6 comfortably, (if you're not too worried about privacy) 8 at a pinch

and yes, I'm the speed wierdo who doesn't appreciate truly flat water

I can fully understand the desire for pursuit of the flat stuff but it doesn't get my ya ya's off as I feel like I'm not realy doing much more than balancing the rig and triming the board. Most of the time I was sailing blind with fogged up glasses (had to duck my head under water each time before a run to clear them temporarily) and the biggest problem's I had during the day was flipping the 7m sail into the right position to be able to water start.

That said this is the best place for flat water I've ever sailed (admittedly I havent sailed any of the legendary spots) glassy top, good winds and you can sail 7 & 4 oclock behind someone and there is absolutely no board wash from the other board because of the weed, that and being able to point and shoot from anywhere. Apart from the outright speed thing the potential of Alpha's is mind boggling

I did learn a lot about set up on the trip as flat water setups are a lot different to how we normally set up especially when a weedie is a necessity, next time first up I'd shift my footstraps right back to free up the board some more.

The weed is similar to Safety bay ribbon weed except its about 10-15mm wider and it's right up to and floating on the surface so a good weedie is needed, claytons weedies may struggle.

I will be back and thoroughly recommend doing the run down, The challetes which Decrep Dot and Hardz stayed in were awesome and literaly about 40m from the waters edge. I imagine when Perth troughs out next summer there will be a few vans on the way down.
